Jyoti Omi Chowdhury was born in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh which in his opinion is infamous for torrential rain and back alley cricket. His formative years were spent daydreaming about women and soccer, under the cusp of a military dictatorship . Omi moved to USA in early 2000 for his university education and after spending his undergraduate years in the wilderness of the vast prairies, he decided he wanted even more space, and promptly moved to Canada for his masters. But the serenity of Western Canada was no match for his restlessness coupled with the allure of Harvard University, where he ended up, eventually. In between all this tiptoeing, rapidly developing wanderlust, Omi got involved with Genocide research and started actively contributing to various scholarly journals writing about issues concerning gender equity, war theory and liberalism. During his research and field study for his PhD. work, he found an outlet in the form of photography.
